AccentCare Hospice
Mission
"To provide the highest quality end‑of‑life palliative and comfort care to our patients through a compassionate, interdisciplinary team that includes medical, social, spiritual, and volunteer support."
Volunteer Duties
Volunteers play a meaningful role in bringing comfort, dignity, and connection to patients and families. Duties may include:
- Visiting patients in their homes or nursing facilities
- Offering companionship and conversation to patients who may feel lonely, anxious, or fearful
- Playing cards or games, reading aloud, listening to music, or simply sitting and being present
- Providing respite support by sitting with patients while caregivers attend to personal needs or errands
- Assisting with or leading group activities in nursing homes, such as:
- BINGO and games
- Social hours
- Painting nails, crafts, or themed activities
- Fulfilling one‑time special requests when appropriate
- Vigil support for patients nearing end of life
- Administrative and office support
- Remote volunteer opportunities by phone for:
- Circle of Care check‑ins
- Bereavement support calls
- Pet therapy support (certified teams)
Group Volunteering Opportunities
Group volunteers provide connection, presence, and shared moments of joy for our patients. These opportunities focus on companionship and emotional support, including:
- Visiting patients as a group to socialize, talk, laugh, or share music
- Supporting group activities in facilities
- Participating in Legacy Projects, helping patients reflect on and share their life stories
All group volunteers must:
- Be 15 years of age or older
Legacy Program - Bringing a Life Story to Light
One of our most meaningful volunteer opportunities is the Legacy Program. Through gentle conversation, listening, and creative support, volunteers help patients:
- Share their life stories, memories, values, and wisdom
- Reflect on meaningful moments, lessons learned, and cherished relationships
- Create keepsakes such as:
- Written stories or letters
- Recorded memories
- Memory books or guided life reflections
These legacy projects become treasured gifts for families, allowing a patient’s voice, story, and love to live on for generations after their passing. Volunteers are not expected to be writers or artists — only compassionate listeners with open hearts.
